About Shibamata Taishakuten
About the sculptures of the Lotus Sutra at Taishakudo
There are many wood carvings inside and outside the Taishakudo Hall, but the ten carvings on the outside of the hall's inner sanctuary are particularly based on stories from the Lotus Sutra, the most famous of all Buddhist scriptures.
This sculpture depicting the Lotus Sutra was the result of a request from the 16th abbot of the temple, Kanmyoin Nissai Shonin, and was completed over a period of more than ten years, from the end of the Taisho period to 1934, with the tireless cooperation of devout believer Suzuki Genjiro.

Admission fee : 400 yen for adults, 200 yen for elementary and junior high school students, 300 yen for groups of 20 or more. You can view both the sculpture gallery and the garden.
