Shibamata is Taishakuten, the spiritual home of the people.

During the Edo period, on Koshin Day, people carried lanterns and walked the streets of Shibamata.
What lay beyond this prayer was a wish for recovery from illness and long life.
The Koshin faith reflected people's earnest desire for the immediate disappearance of illness and immortality, and was also a day symbolizing the renewal of life.
The day when Taishakuten appeared to save the people living in this hellish world was the day when a new life began for them.
